Two Whitehouse Texas Independent Schools District Vehicles Involved in an Accident
Two Whitehouse Independent School District vehicles carrying Whitehouse High School students were involved in an accident late Saturday night on Highway 59 in Wharton, TX. The teacher, Holley Mann remains hospitalized after the accident which occurred on Saturday evening. Two students, Jennifer Aragon and Jacob Smith are both recovering from their injuries. One student who was riding in one of the cars reported "The next thing you know I turned my head and I see headlights and the glass shatters. The teacher Holly Mann was driving the car with four students inside when the wreck occurred. The injured were taken by care-flight to a hospital in Houston. The students suffered from injuries to their back and/or head while Ms. Mann is reported to have injuries to her leg, ribs, and pelvis. Several other students and one teacher were transported to a Wharton hospital and were treated with non-life threatening injuries. They have now all been treated and released.
The Wharton County District Attorney Ross Kurtz says Mann's vehicle was struck head-on by a Toyota pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 59. The driver of the other vehicle, Joan Marie Novak, consented to a blood test in the hospital. Kurtz said the accident is being investigated as a DWI. He said that Novak has a previous DWI on her record from December 2012. The Whitehouse students and teachers were traveling from Corpus Christi where they had attended a Career and Technical Education Contest.
