Truck tire causes fire on major highway

Traffic going westbound on Interstate 20 in Kilgore was pulled down to one lane after an 18-wheeler commercial truck caught on fire that Monday evening.

Police investigation reported that the accident happened after 6:00 P.M. in Kilgore, approximately a half-mile west of the Highway 259 exit. The driver of the 18-wheeler commercial truck was heading towards Amarillo, and that was one one of his tired caught on fire.

Authorities have reported that a second 18-wheeler pulled over and the driver of the second commercial truck went over to aid the first driver of the burning rig.

By the time the second driver arrived to the truck with a fire extinguisher, the fire had already began spreading to the rest of cab.

Police say that no one was injured during the accident, but traffic on Interstate 20 had to be shut down to a single one lane near the scene of the fire accident. Lanes began to open up once the 18-wheeler accident has cleared up.

The Kilgore Fire Department, Sabine Volunteer Fire Department and Kilgore police all responded to the scene of the fire incident on Interstate 20 to the 18-wheeler commercial vehicle.
