Rowlett Teen transferred to New Hospital

A Sachse High School student is set to be moved Wednesday to a Dallas hospital after he was critically injured Saturday in west Texas.

Dylan Godwin, 15, will be transported to the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. He underwent a second brain surgery Tuesday that went “really well,” said Allison Ray, Godwin’s youth minister.

Godwin still hasn’t opened his eyes since the crash, but his body responded to some simple tests and stimulation after the surgery, Ray said.

A donation site has been set up for the Godwin family to help cover medical expenses. Another donation site has been set up through gofundme.com.

A Sachse High School student remains in critical condition after a single-car accident Saturday afternoon in west Texas.

Dylan Godwin, 15, and his father were involved in an accident near Abilene. Godwin was transported to a local hospital where he underwent brain surgery, said Allison Ray, Godwin’s youth minister.

Godwin is tentatively scheduled for a second surgery Tuesday. Doctors hope to stabilize the teen so he can be moved this week to a Dallas hospital, Ray said.

Godwin plays for the Sachse football team and is in the Boy Scouts. On Sunday, about 200 people attended a prayer vigil in downtown Garland.

“The mood was very somber. A lot of people were nervous and scared,” Ray said. “But there’s faith with an edge of hope.”

Godwin is a triplet with two sisters.
