New Brochure Helps Drivers in the Chaos Post-Accident

Whether we like it or not, every driver that gets behind the wheel of a vehicle risks getting into an accident. Auto accidents happen in the blink of an eye and always when drivers least expect them to. Unless a driver is well prepared, the aftermath of an accident can be chaotic.

To help motorists deal with what happens immediately after an accident, the Insurance Council of Texas has prepared a brochure titled "Holy Fender Bender! What Do We Do Next?" The brochure offers motorists straightforward advice on what steps to take, including calling 911, exchanging information with the other driver(s), and contacting the insurance company.

Many motorists are unaware of the information that should be collected from the other driver(s) if an accident occurs. The brochure includes a simple form drivers can use and fill out in case of an accident so all necessary information is written down, including:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • Driver license number
  • License plate number
  • Make and model of vehicle
  • Insurance information
  • Witness information

If the accident causes enough damage to your vehicle to necessitate a tow, the brochure also offers information about towing such as where your vehicle may be towed, and what the tow truck driver may ask of you.

Further, the brochure offers a basic overview of the different types of insurance and the expenses that those types of insurance cover. Two of the basic types of insurance fraud that you may encounter are also mentioned - with the reminder that you should contact the police if you suspect insurance fraud.

You may be a good driver, but others might not be. Be prepared for an accident so that you can protect yourself if one should occur.
