Multiple Injuries in Rollover Truck Accident

An investigation is following an automotive accident that involved up to at least 21 illegal immigrants, that were crammed in a reportedly stolen truck in Mcallen, Texas.

The rollover accident occurred around 10 p.m by the intersection of FM 490 and FM 2844, north of McCook on that Wednesday night. The Ford F-250 truck was reported to have rolled over.

At least one person has died and seven people were rushed to the hospital after the auto-wreck injury, says Starr County official.

The fatal accident is being under further investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

U.S. Border Patrol officials and local authorities were able to apprehend eight immigrants, of which seven were injured in the incident, though 21 were believed to have traveled in the truck. The driver and remaining illegal immigrants dispersed into the surrounding scrubland.

Despite having a helicopter supplied by the Dept. of Public Saftey dispatched at the scene, the search for the fleeing immigrants was encumbered by the cold and wet weather conditions.

Investigators have not identified the immigrant who perished in the rollover, nor his nationality, though the case remains open.
