Man killed in auto-pedestrian car accident in East Austin

A man this morning was struck by a car Tuesday morning while walking on the crosswalk and was declared dead at the impact, according to Austin Police.

The 70-year-old man was struck just after 6:00 p.m., where Vargas Road was closed in both directions and U.S 183 was closed down to one lane at the intersection as police continued the investigation.

The woman was driving a silver sedan, where she said the green light had gone on. That was when the man crossed the street and died upon impact. Austin officers said they received a phone call from the driver who reported hitting the man on U.S Highway 183, near Vargas Road. The area has been known also as the Bastop Highway. The driver stayed at the scene of the crash to talk to police and did not receive a citation for the incident.

The victims family who lived nearby was notified.
