High speed causes fiery crash

Police believe speed was a factor in the fiery 18-wheeler crash that happened during the morning rush hour at the border of Plano and Richardson.

The driver of the truck, Kukic Jasmin, was ticketed on charges of failure to control speed. He also had no permit for operating the truck or proof of insurance, police said.

The accident happened just after 6:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 75 right under the President George Bush Turnpike overpass.

Plano Officer David Tilley said Jasmin's truck hit a median and burst into flames. No other vehicles were involved.

Right after the crash video from the Texas Department of Transportation showed flames shooting 10 to 15 feet into the air and lots of black smoke.

Witness Andrew Haymaker said he was a few cars behind when it happened. He saw several Good Samaritans stop to pull the driver out of the truck before it was fully engulfed.

Tilley said the driver made it out with little to no injuries.

The accident caused significant backups in the area and at least one onlooker crash in the HOV lane on northbound Hwy. 75.
