Annie's List executive director in fatal car crash
Grace Garcia of Annie's List, a group dedicated to electing Democratic women who support abortion rights, has died in a car crash. She was 59.
Garcia was a powerful supporter of candidates including Sen. Wendy Davis of Fort Worth, who is running for governor against Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott, and Sen. Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, the Democrats' candidate for lieutenant governor against Republican Sen. Dan Patrick of Houston.
“It is with a tremendous sense of loss that we announce the passing of our executive director and leader, Grace Garcia, who lost her life in a car accident Monday afternoon,” Amber Mostyn, Annie's List board chair, said in a statement.
Mostyn said another staffer was injured in the crash, which occurred in Waxahachie, and was in intensive care.
