18-Wheeler Morning Accident

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal, two-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler on westbound I-20 near mile marker 495.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:24 a.m. on Wednesday morning, September 3, 2014, on westbound I-20 near mile marker 495 between the Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 and FM 148 exits. A white four-door sedan rear ended an 18-wheeler pulling a flatbed trailer.

43-year-old Grey F. Jacobs of Arp, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Kaufman County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Trooper Kyle Bradford. Jacobs allegedly failed to maintain his speed and struck the trailer.

The impact of the vehicles disabled the trailers rear axle. The sedan was hauled from the scene on a wrecker. The 18-wheeler driver was uninjured.

The right lane of the I-20 remained closed until approximately 11:43 a.m. while DPS conducted their investigation and wreckers removed both vehicles from the roadway.

The Forney Fire Department and an East Texas Medical Center ambulance responded to the scene. The Forney Fire Department remained on scene to provide traffic control during the investigation. - See more at: http://inforney.com/local-news/item/2244-dps-investigating-fatal-accident-on-i-20-involving-18-wheeler#sthash.7TBMXane.dpuf
