18-Wheeler Crushes Man

A person was killed Thursday morning when a vehicle drove under a tractor-trailer on Texas 31 near Interstate 20, severing the top of the car and killing the driver.
One person is dead after a wreck Thursday morning on Texas 31 near Interstate 20.

A southbound car on Texas 31 drove under a tractor-trailer, severing the top of the car and killing the driver.
Police, Department of Public Safety troopers and fire crews responded to the wreck just north of the Texas 31 and I-20 junction.
Kilgore Assistant Fire Chief Mike Simmons said the wreck happened about 10 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of the tractor-trailer showed no signs of injuries but was taken by ambulance to a Kilgore hospital.
“We don’t know what happened as far as what the cause of the accident was,” Simmons said.

The identity of the victim was not released Thursday, and a DPS spokeswoman said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of traffic on Texas 31 from FM 1252 at the time of the wreck.

The bottom half of the car ended up in the median of the divided highway.
“We don’t respond very often to this intersection for major accidents like this, although they do occur,” Simmons said. “Anytime you have two major streets intersecting, there is a possibility of accidents occurring.”\
